Everyone Deserves a Healthy Home

Posted on 09. May, 2016 by

Rent in New Orleans continues to rise while the conditions of rental housing remain dismal. Estimates from the last American Housing Survey in 2011 show that as many as 49,000–roughly 78% of rental units–in New Orleans needed major repairs at some point in the previous year.

Enough is enough. New Orleans renters–especially families with young children–deserve better. We are a majority-renter city, and it’s time to create concrete policies to hold landlords accountable for making sure that the apartments they rent out meet basic standards of health and safety. Safe, healthy housing is too important to New Orleans families and culture-bearers to put on the back burner. Take a stand and tell your council-member that we’ve had enough of substandard housing in New Orleans.
