A Rare Budget Deal Restores Key Housing Funding for Louisiana

Posted on 16. Dec, 2015 by

Thanks to all of your incredible work, Congress finally introduced a budget deal that that includes full funding for housing programs AND removes the harmful amendments that would have weakened fair housing laws. Please take a moment right now to thank Members of Congress, and urge them to support the budget deal.

As rents and flood insurance rates rise across the state, Louisiana relies on these programs to keep housing within reach of working families. Previous versions of this budget included cuts of up to 90% for vital housing funds like the HOME program.

The budget deal also eliminates dangerous policy provisions that would have prevented the enforcement of federal fair housing laws.

Organizations and individuals across the state signed letters and sent emails to our Congressional delegation on behalf of all the families that depend on these programs. Thank you for your incredible advocacy—you made a huge difference!

Please take a moment right now to thank the Louisiana delegation. When this comes to a final vote on Thursday, we hope that they’ll do the right thing.

With gratitude for your support,

Monika Gerhart-Hambrick                                                                          Policy Director
